Info about American Telephone & Telegraph Stock

When was the American Telephone and Telegraph Company founded?

The project was formally incorporated in New York as a separate company named American Telephone and Telegraph Company on March 3, 1885.

What is the history of AT&T?

Originally known as the American Telephone and Telegraph Co., AT&T was formed in 1885 as a subsidiary of American Bell Telephone Co., which was created by telephone inventor Alexander Graham Bell. Today, the multinational company offers multiple services focusing on cellular and informational distribution.

Why did American Bell become AT&T?

On December 30, 1899, the assets of American Bell were transferred into its subsidiary American Telephone and Telegraph Company (formerly AT&T Long Lines ); this was because Massachusetts corporate laws were very restrictive, and limited capitalization to ten million dollars, forestalling American Bell's further growth.

How did AT&T become so successful?

Telephones moved from shared party lines to private lines, and telephone services like weather and time announcements became widespread, adding further revenue. AT&T split its stock three-for-one in 1959 and two-for-one in 1964. By 1966 AT&T had three million stockholders and nearly one million employees.
